mother and baby yoga

Mother and Baby Yoga is a wonderful way for new mums to return to exercise, whilst bonding with their baby. It's a fun class, adapted to ease you and your body back to strength, and is an entirely flexible class to allow you to take time out to feed or cuddle your baby  as necessary. As the class name suggests, the baby is not simply welcome to the class, but an integral part of it, and learning to interact with, massage and play with your baby, is a fabulous benefit for mums and babies.  The class includes music, massage and other sensory stimulation for your baby, to ensure both you and they sleep well afterwards!

Cameron and I very much enjoy going to our weekly class with Olivia and the other mums and babies. This class is very much geared up to involve your little one so they are not sitting on the sidelines watching but get to take part as well, so I get a workout and he gets entertainment! Class finishes with a cuppa and chat to swap tips and news.

The class includes

- safe, appropriate, post-natal exercise for mums (including after c sections or if you have stomach separation)

- Fun movements, massage and exercise for baby

- multi sensory entertainment for baby using sounds, lights, textures and movement.

You don't need to have had previous experience of yoga and you don't need to find someone else to look after your baby whilst you exercise. Your baby is part of the class, held, lifted and gently swung by you as you move. If your baby happens to be asleep you can simply do the class beside your dozing baby and enjoy having free arms.

Another bonus of the class is that you can do the exercises at home on other days and you don't need to wait for that magical (elusive) moment when your baby is asleep and all jobs are done and you're not exhausted or wanting a cup of tea.

At the moment I’m running a weekly class on Wednesday mornings at 10.15 but if this time doesn’t work for you and you’d like a class at a different time, perhaps get your NCT group together and get in contact with a suggestion of what you’d like.

If you can't make the classes then my blog has some exercises to do at home.

I first started yoga with Olivia when I was pregnant, to be able to go back and practice with her post pregnancy with my baby is fantastic. She knows me, knows how my pregnancy went and she certainly knows her stuff when it comes to All things babies and yoga!

Mother and baby yoga has been so good for Axel and I as it has allowed me the freedom to exercise in a safe yet sensory environment for him. Being with other mums is also a great way to socialise in those first few months.
Fruit, biscuits, tea and chat is also a selling point for me.
